Pakistan Christian TV - Gujra incident and response from Rawalpindi/Islamabad
- Christians, Muslims Religious Scholars and Civil society on 3rd August, 2009 at Fatima Church Islamabad for solidarity and condemn these communal riots in Gujra. It was decided to organize peaceful procession on 7th August 2009 from China Choke to Geo Office to record our protest and demand to repeal all discriminatory laws in the country.
- On 4th August Fr.Anwar Patras from Satellite town Parish, organized a rally with 100 people at press club Islamabad to protest against this brutal incident of Gujra and condemn religious extremism. Nyala J Dayal also participated in the rally.
- On 7th August 2009, Diocesan staff with our diocesan director Mehboob Sada Attended the peaceful demonstration organized by Jameet-e-Islami and Fatima Church with helpful of Civil society of Rawalpinidi and Islamabad, more than 200 hundred people participated in the rally demanding justice and arrest of the culprit and to repeal all discriminatory.
- Christian Organization for Social Action in Pakistan (COSAP) did a press Conference on 9th August 2009 .Mehboob Sada, Cecil Chaudrya and Salamat Akhtar addressed the press. They came up with two point agenda. All citizens, without any bias to caste, color or creed by given absolute equal rights and total separation of state and religion.
- On 11th August 2009, Diocesan Staff and director attended a Seminar “Quid’s vision & emerging Reality organized by Pakistan Liberal Forum at Holiday Inn Islamabad. Cecil Chaudry, Ahmad Saleem , Anis Jalani an and Federal Minister for Human rights Commission and a large number of people from different organizations attended this seminar in which riots in Gujra were condemn and it was shared we all are Pakistani and there should be no discriminations on the basis of religion. Let make Pakistan as Quaid wanted it to be. There was a demand to repeal all discriminatory laws, fueling religious extremism and intolerance in the country.
- On 11th Christian Leaders and social worker organized a peaceful rally to observe the day as balckday. Fr.Anwar Patras and Mrs.Asiya Nasir (Parliamentary Secretary for Science &Technology) along the other Christian leaders led the rally and condemn these incidents in Gujra, demanding justice, arrest culprits and repeal all discriminatory laws. More then 3000 people participated from Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
- On 11th August 2009, Pakistan Christian Council organized a seminar at UP Church Rawalpindi all Christian’s leaders of Rawalpindi to discuss “SITAUTION OF CHRISTIANS IN PAKISTAN AND OUR RESPONSIBILITIES”. They prayed for those deceased in this brutal incident and jointly demand the repeal of all discrinatory laws.
- Youth of Emmanuel Church Chamanzar or Colony Rawalpindi organized on 15th August 2009. it was the 5th Annual youth rally and it was to mark the incident of Gujra and to make youth understand the current situation in the country, raise awareness of youth about issues and of religious extremism and discriminatory . 200 young people attend this rally.
- Youth Alliance organized a peaceful procession from Emmanuel Church to Jhung Press Club Rawalpindi. 150 youth participated in the procession chanting slogan to condemn this incident. Mrs.Asiya Nasir (Parliamentary Secretary for Science &Technology), Robin Daud (Chairman Youth Alliance) and Basharat (Diocesan Coordinator) led the rally.
