Signature campaign of National Commission for Justice and Peace Commission for the repeal of Blasphemy laws
Lahore: October 06, 2009, (PCTV Newsdesk)National commission for justice and peace initiated a signature campaign, soon after the gory incident of Gujra. Commission with the civil society has so many times brought in the notice of previous and current governments that these discriminatory laws are being misused take personal grudges and are easiest toll to threatened innocent people of the society.
According to data collected by NCJP, from 1986 to August 2009, at least 964 persons were alleged under this law. 479 of these were Muslims, 119 Christians, 340 Ahmadis, 14 Hindus and 10 were unknown. About 32 persons have been extra judicially murdered by the angry mob or an individual, the statement added
A press release was made by Chairperson Bishop Lawrence Saldana and Executive Secretary Peter Jacob on 25th August 2009, in which they urged the government to repeal these laws as these laws are fueling intolerance and promoting religious extremism in society.
Commission will present these signed paper to the Prime minister, the President and Ministry of law with immediate demand for the repeal of these discriminatory laws.
