The Baptist World Alliance observes Human Rights Day on December 12 and 13
Falls Church, Virginia: December 09, 2009, (PCTV Newsdesk)The Baptist World Alliance is encouraging churches to observe Human Rights Day the weekend of Dec. 12-13.
Human Rights Day Background
For more than twenty years, the Baptist World Alliance has encouraged Baptist congregations around the world to observe Human Rights Day. The date coincides with the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was adopted on December 10, 1948.
Since the Baptist World Alliance’s inception in 1905, issues of human rights and justice have been a priority. The creation of the new division of Freedom and Justice is helping to formalize and expand the BWA’s work in being a voice for the marginalized. With this new initiative we want to continue the excellent tradition of joining together to prayerfully observe Human Rights Day.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was written over 60 years ago, yet there are Baptist brothers and sisters around the world still suffering daily from various forms of persecution and injustice.
