Adventures in Missions Sends Help to Haiti Earthquake Victims
Gainesville, GA.: January 14, 2010, (PCTV Newsdesk)The world was rocked by the news of the 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti, near Port-au-Prince late afternoon Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Devastating aftershocks have followed. The destruction is catastrophic. Damaged communication lines and cell towers are making communication extremely difficult. Despite the challenges, the reports and images making their way to the rest of the world show collapsed hospitals, crumbled homes and men and women carrying their injured neighbors through the streets to safety.
Miguel and Kristen Shaul, Adventures In Missionaries (AIM) missionaries based in the Dominican Republic, are headed to the area to begin providing much- needed relief and help to those affected.
"The primary goal is to bring first response relief to those in need, supplies such as food, blankets, shelters, and basic health care," said Kristen Shaul. "Our secondary goal is to identify communities in which we can get involved in long-term rebuilding."
"The devastation is heartbreaking," said Seth Barnes, AIM Director. "Please support these relief efforts by making a donation and praying for the safety of our missionaries and the people of Haiti. Also, pray for the government and leadership of Haiti as they respond to this disaster."
AIM is currently making arrangements to send advance teams to Haiti to prepare for the mission groups that will arrive in the coming weeks and months. Opportunities to go on a mission trip to Haiti will soon be posted at adventures.org.
Parties interested in helping are encouraged to donate to AIM's Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. All tax-deductible gifts will help AIM rush emergency assistance in the form of food, water, blankets, shelter and medical care to those in greatest need.
Adventures In Missions (AIM) is an interdenominational missions organization that focuses on discipleship. They emphasize prayer and relationships in their work amongst the poor. Since 1989, AIM has taken over 80,000 people into the mission field, some for as short as a week and others for as long as a year or longer. Through 14 bases around the world, AIM has year-round ministry to places where "the least of these" are found. AIM believes that by giving people the opportunity to hold orphans, bring hope to the hopeless, and pray for the sick, lives are transformed.
