Catholic Bible Commission Pakistan (CBCP) and Kitab-o-Qalam has jointly organized a workshop on Psalms in Mirpurkhas, Sindh
Lahore, Pakistan: February 09, 2010, (PCTV Newsdesk)Catholic Bible Commission Pakistan (CBCP) and Kitab-o-Qalam has jointly organized a workshop on Psalms which was took place on 18th January – 2nd February 2010, at Joti center, Mirpurkhas, Sindh. 22 participants attended the workshop. Participants were from all the provinces of Pakistan. Among the participants there were Nuns, Priests and faithful. Participants were from background of different cultures like Punjabi, Oadki, Dhatki, Gujrati, Marwari, Parkari, Tharadri, Saraiki, and Hindko. The teachers were Mr. Murray Salisbury from England and Mr. Tayyab Saleem from Karachi.
Opening ceremony was held on 18th January 2010. Holy Bible was recited. Mr. Asher Shahzad, Administrator of “Kitab-o-Qalam” gave the introduction and background of the workshop. He said the main purpose of this translation workshop was to prepare the participants to translate the Book of Psalms.
There were two sessions daily, in the first session contents and features of any psalm were taught and in the second participants had to do that psalm in the poetry or in the prose in their language. Participants worked in teams to study and translate several Psalms, practicing and developing the skills needed to produce good quality translations – ones that not only transfer the content clearly and accurately, but also had good poetic style.
Among the topics covered were key concepts, psalms types and their overall purpose, the poetic features of Biblical poetry and their most common functions, as well as the features and functions of their community ‘s poetry and songs.
Concluding ceremony was held on 2nd February 2010. Participants gave words of thanks to Resource persons, Catholic Bible Commission Pakistan (CBCP) and Kitab-o-Qalam for sending them and given chance to be part of this informative workshop. They shared their experience during the workshop. Guests of honors were garlanded. . Participants presented the “Ajrak” Sindhi wrapper and Cap to resource person as the token of Love. Certificates were distributed among the participants.
