Suspected rapists of Christian minor appear in court - CLAAS
Lahore, Pakistan: February 25, 2010, (PCTV Newsdesk)Two men accused of raping a young Christian girl have appeared in court in a case going back two years.
CLAAS continues to support Gulshan, who was just
12-years-ol d when she was raped by Muslims in Nankana Sahib in August
2008. She had been working in a spinning mill at the time to support
her five siblings, a blind grandmother and mentally ill mother after
the sudden death of her father.
In a society where talking about rape is still
taboo and rape victims are treated with contempt, Ghulshan took the
brave decision to stand up against social and cultural injustice and
defy the will of her family by reporting what happened to her and
seeking justice in the law courts.
The two men accused of the crime, one identified
only as Ramzan and the other, Aman Ullah, were due to stand trial on 12
February.
Ramzan is currently free, after the high court in
Lahore accepted his bail application. Ullah’s bail application has
been rejected by the district and session court of Nankana, the high
court in Lahore and the Supreme Court.
