Caritas Pakistan Hyderabad Bio Saline Agriculture, solution of problem of local farmers

In Pakistan, about 6.30 million hectares of land are salt-affected and of which 1.89 hectare is saline, 1.85 millionhectare is permeable saline-sodic, 1.02 million hectare is impermeable saline-sodic and 0.028 million hectare issodic in nature. It is estimated that out of 1.89 million hectares saline patches, 0.45 million hectares present inPunjab, 0.94 million hectares in Sindh and 0.5 million hectares inNWFP.

To solve this issue, scientists are working day and night, but inPakistan it has been observed that there is a big gap betweenuniversities and the communities, so to address this issue, CaritasPakistan joined hands with sindh agriculture university. SharedMumtaz Bashir (Livelihood Program Coordinator- CPH).

A training program for 48 participants from interior Sindh includingCaritas workers, farmers, students, and a big number of universityteachers attended this program. Furthermore to transfer this technologyalready Dr. I Rajpar has done lot of work in collaboration with CaritasPakistan Hyderabad. In reorganization of Mr. Mumtaz’s services inBio-Saline Agriculture, Vice chancellor awarded with appreciationaward to Mumtaz Bashir.

Mr. Shammas Shamaun (Executive Secretary) Sr. Roberta (SecretaryDiocesian Caritas Board) also shared their views and committed forfuture ongoing cooperation between both institutes. Sindh agriculture university also gave award to caritas PakistanHyderabad
