I was a stranger and you welcomed me,The Capuchin Conference on Migration in Bangkok

The Capuchin Conference on migration will begin tomorrow, April 26, and will end one May 2, 2010 at St. Gabriel’s Foundation Building, Bangkok. The purpose of this conference is to focus on having a common vision in order to promote a plan of action to respond to the issues and problems of migrants in Asia. The participants of this seven day Conference have come from India, Indonesia, Israel, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand and UAE to share not only their experiences and knowledge but their concerns for the migrants as well. The resource persons for these meetings have come from Germany, India, Pakistan, Switzerland, Thailand and UAE. 

There are three participants from Pakistan: Fr. Emmanuel Asi will be giving input from Biblical perspective on the theme of "The Stranger in the Bible". Fr. Qaisar Feroz who will be making a documentary of the meetings, interactive group activities and visit to the Refugee Centre. Fr. Khuram Shahzad will be attending this meeting whereas Fr. Nadeem Francis, member of JPE Commission of Capuchins, could not be present for the conference due to his accident that cause a fracture on his foot.                         

The participants will be blessed and inspired by the inaugural messages of Br. Matthew Parinthirikal, the president of the Justice, Peace and Ecology Commission. His Excellency, Bishop Francis Xavier, Bishop of Bangkok and Br. Mauro Jöhri, the Minister General of the Capuchin Friars all over the world. Brs. Definitors General Peter Rodgers, Br. Josè Gislon, and Br. John Antony have shown a very special interest in these meetings as they will be actively participating in the whole process of planing together along with the other participants and resource persons.
