Environment Day Celebrations at St. Mary's School Hafizabad, Pakistan
Lahore, Pakistan: June 12, 2010, (PCTV Newsdesk)Livelihood Program of Caritas Pakistan Lahore celebrated the Environment Day at St. Mary’s School Hafizabad. Program was started with the prayer by Rev. Fr. Joseph Shehzad. School students presented a fantastic tableau and a song related to Environment protection and mother land. They also participated in the chart exhibition on the theme of environment. Mr. Amir Rafiq (Coordinator Livelihood Program Caritas Pakistan Lahore) described the composition of the environment which was created by the Almighty God. He explained that smoke of vehicles, firing of waste material; tyres and medical equipments have increased the ratio of Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Sulphur Dioxide, Lead Oxide and Lead Nitrite etc in the atmosphere. He added that this high %age of gases leads to the high temperature which results melting of Glaciers. This melting is creating floods for destruction. He added that pollution not only disturbs the environment but it also affects the health of human beings. He gave three responsibilities to the students to save the mother Earth i.e.
(1) Proper dumping of Waste Material
(2) Planting of trees
(3) Avoid firing of waste material
Mr. Innocent Joseph (Coordinator Disaster Program Caritas Pakistan Lahore) stressed the students to properly dump the waste material. Rev. Fr. Joseph Shehzad emphasis the students to take care of the mother Earth. He added that we should wash our hands before and after taking foods. He also described that after planting the trees properly water the plants. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the chart competition on environment by Rev. Fr. Joseph Shehzad. Rev. Sr. Magdalene thanked the team of Caritas Pakistan and ensured her cooperation with the Caritas Pakistan. Environment Day Stickers were distributed among th159 students. Mr. Aneel Gill (Extension Worker Caritas Pakistan Lahore) facilitated the event.
