Need Assessment workshop by Women Empowerment Program in Lahore
Lahore, Pakistan: August 03, 2010, (PCTV Newsdesk)Caritas Pakistan Lahore (CPL) organized a workshop at St. Paul’s Church Shadbagh Parish on July 30, 2010 in which fifty six women participated. Ms. Samia Francis (Coordinator Women Empowerment program) briefly shared about aims and objectives of Women Empowerment Program.
She also highlighted the status of women in Pakistan, which is not homogenous because of the interconnection of gender with other forms of exclusion in the society. Patriarchal values embedded in local traditions and culture predetermines the social value of gender.
Group also shared their needs, resources and difficulties in the society during the process of need assessment. Participants strongly requested to initiate centers for sewing, adult education and computer. They are facing difficulties to work outside because their families are not allowing to work outside the home.
That is why they are unable to contribute for their families’ betterment as well as to develop themselves and remain among the poor. If they will become skilled then they would be able to develop themselves and their families.
At the end of the workshop Ms. Saima Francis introduced five skills of Women Empowerment which will be focused to make our Christian young girls and organize one group for one area.
Rev. Fr. Saleem David thanked the participants and Caritas Pakistan Lahore’s team. Rev. Fr. Francis Gulzar and Mr. Innocent Joseph were also present during the workshop. Mr. Saleem Raza was the master of ceremony.
