USA: August 13, 2010, (PCTV Newsdesk)Archbishop urges generosity to Pakistan Appeal
Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow has called for a generous response by Scots to the unfolding flooding disaster in Pakistan An estimated 1,600 people have been killed and up to 14 million affected by the heavy monsoon rains that have hit Pakistan over the last week.
The Archbishop said: "Glasgow has close links with Pakistan and counts many people of Pakistani origin among its citizens. At this time of trial it is vital that Glaswegians of all faiths and none should show solidarity with those who are suffering as a result of the terrible flooding."
People's homes and livelihoods have been destroyed. Most of the affected areas have also lost their supply of clean drinking water as flood water has contaminated wells. Poor sanitation and continued flooding are also increasing the threat of disease.
