Asia Bibi fears she will be the next victim of vicious killings in Pakistan
Lahore, Pakistan: March 25, 2011, (PCTV Newsdesk)Since last November CLAAS has been pressing for justice for Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death on blasphemy charges. We have written to the President of Pakistan, the Pakistani High Commissioner in London, and to the British Prime Minister pleading for justice and greater security for Asia Bibi.
Following the assassination of Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti Asia has voiced her pain and concern that she will be the next victim in the hands of militant Muslims. ‘Part of my hope died with Bhatti’, she told her lawyer. ‘The only things that are sustaining me right now are: God’s grace, the support of Christians around the world and the visits of my children.’
Presently Asia Bibi is in an isolation cell in a prison in Punjab. She has been accused of violating the notorious blasphemy law. She is very afraid and anxious right now and would appreciate your prayers for strength and safety.
Given the current religious tensions in Pakistan Asia’s lawyers have decided to delay starting the appeal process for her case.
