10 سنوات على انطلاق رحلة سبيس إكس إلى الفضاء

10 years since the launch of SpaceX’s journey into space

Exactly 10 years ago on May 31, SpaceX’s first mission blasted off to and from the International Space Station (ISS) and ushered in a new era of American spaceflight.

SpaceX chief Elon Musk acknowledged the anniversary in a tweet about the Experimental Commercial Orbital Transfer Services 2 (COTS 2) pilot mission in 2012.

In a high-profile flight that marked the first time a privately funded spacecraft had docked with the International Space Station, Cargo Dragon launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida on May 22, 2012, powered into orbit by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that has since become a staple of its orbital operations as reported by Digitartlends.

The astronauts aboard the station were then able to enter the spacecraft to collect the cargo of supplies, thus becoming the first humans to experience inside the capsule while in space. However, it was another eight years before a more advanced version of the Dragon – The Crew Dragon – would carry the first astronauts to and from the International Space Station on another flagship mission for SpaceX.

The Crew Dragon left the International Space Station on May 31 for a successful return home a few hours later.

After a full mission evaluation from launch to inception, NASA has certified SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and Dragon SpaceX system, paving the way for regular cargo delivery missions to the station under the space agency’s commercial resupply services program.
