The Emirates Space Agency recently launched the “Space Data Collector” project as a digital platform for collecting and providing data with the aim of developing software and finding solutions to meet national and global challenges.
The project includes 3 platforms and programs: the Space Data Analysis Platform, the SAS Program for Space Applications, and the Hope Probe Data Scientific Center.
The satellite data complex is part of a series of transformational projects announced by the UAE government as part of its efforts to embody the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to focus on creating the most active and best economy in the world.
The “Space Data Complex” aims to provide an innovative system for space data and technologies at the international level, in addition to increasing the number of space companies and patents, attracting the best innovators, accelerating the development of space products, enhancing space’s contribution to solving national and global challenges, as well as raising the percentage of scientific research production and improving Quality of life and supporting other sectors with space services and applications that contribute to diversifying the UAE economy.
The space data analysis platform is a digital platform for applications and software related to Earth observation and remote sensing. .
As for the SAS program, it focuses on 3 main axes: environmental monitoring, climate change and food security. The first aims to monitor many soil properties, including organic carbon changes in agricultural soils, to track the process of carbon sequestration and mapping that monitors soil properties based on artificial intelligence techniques based on satellite data. It also contributes to finding practical solutions and developing an intelligent and effective system for monitoring and controlling soil quality.
As for climate change, according to the Emirates Space Agency, it lies in the scarcity of accurate and reliable models for integrating data, and the challenge lies in the lack of accurate models that monitor the percentages of greenhouse gas emissions. thermal.
Which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is collecting from various national sectors, and at the same time, remote sensing systems alone have not monitored accurate and identical information to those on the ground.
The Food Security Program aims to monitor the state of farms in the UAE based on data collected by satellites, historical information, and future plans and goals, which contributes to identifying strengths, weaknesses and potential risks in farms and their impact on food security.
The challenge enhances awareness of the importance of using satellite data, re-analyzing and benefiting from it using smart technologies in order to reach more efficient and effective solutions for food security. The challenge also focuses on the need to prepare future visions on the issue of food security in order to deliver the right messages at the right time to decision makers.
As for the Scientific Center for the data of the Hope Probe, through the SDC, it is the central repository for all scientific data from the Emirates Mars Exploration Vehicle, and access to the data is free for anyone who creates an account according to the Emirates Space Agency, which supports scientific research in space sciences, and reflects the UAE’s leadership in data exchange and contribution. To support and develop researchers and provide the necessary data to space agencies around the world.
