Difficulty swallowing

Unexplained bleeding or bruising.

How to prepare

It’s important to be alert if you have any new or worrying symptoms. Even if it’s unlikely to be cancer, it’s important to talk to your doctor so they can investigate. Catching cancer early is easier to treat.

If your doctor suspects cancer, he or she will refer you to a specialist – usually within two weeks.

How to reduce your risk

Making a few simple changes to your lifestyle can reduce your risk of developing cancer.

According to Macmillan Cancer Support, one in three (about 33 per cent) of the most common cancers can be prevented by eating a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight and being more active.

Eating a well-balanced diet is good for your overall health and can help reduce the risk of certain types of cancer. It also helps in maintaining a healthy weight.
