The French astronaut, Thomas Pesquet, posted on his personal page on the social networking platform “Twitter” a picture of the Saudi capital, Riyadh, at night, with its bright lights, where the dark spot in the middle of the image raised a question about the nature of the dark place.
The astronaut attached the photo with a comment in which he said: “Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stands out at night with its bright lights. The dark spot in the city center is remarkable, but I do not know exactly what it is.”
According to “Sputnik”, the French ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ludovic Pouille, responded that the dark part of the picture belongs to the old airport area, which will become King Salman’s garden.
It is noteworthy that this is not the first time that astronauts have taken pictures from regions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where Japanese astronaut Noguchi Soichi had previously published a picture of the city of Mecca, the Haram and Mecca on his official page on Twitter as well.
