British newspaper “The Sun” reported that police arrested a British Border Police officer on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant.
The newspaper said he was arrested while working for the Home Office agency responsible for protecting the United Kingdom’s borders, where his superiors reacted quickly when suspicions arose about his immigration status.
The man, who is in his late 30s, came to England from the Balkans twenty years ago.
The officer lied about where he was from when asked to fill out documents for the right to remain in the UK and is believed to be the same man among four Border Force soldiers arrested in a separate incident on December 6.
The group was later arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and conspiracy to commit theft.
Officers from the home ministry’s anti-corruption unit made arrests and seized electronic devices, while also raiding employees’ homes.
A Home Office spokesman said: “On December 6, the Home Office Anti-Corruption Unit arrested four immigration officers on suspicion of misconduct in public office and conspiracy to commit theft.”
They were released pending further investigations and immediately arrested.
