Police received information about a bank robbery shortly after 2 pm. Local resident Abdi Qader told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that he was just before 2 a.m. local time at the entrance to the bank, but the cashier told him to leave quickly. When he left, he saw people running from the main entrance to the bank.
The first hostage release
Wells Fargo spokeswoman Staci Schiller confirmed that the hostages were taken at the bank’s southern branch and confirmed that the staff were fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities. All five hostages are bank employees.
FBI agents were called to the scene and began negotiations with the robber.

The release of a third detainee
Shortly before 6:30 p.m., she ran away from the bank and headed to the emergency unit, who searched her and took her to safety. At 19:45, another woman was released. A third hostage was released after five minutes, and a fourth at about eight in the evening.
However, the robber continued to hold the fifth hostage. The latter was not released until after eight hours of negotiations around 22:20. Then FBI agents and other law enforcement officers wearing anti-breakage vests and helmets stormed the bank and seized it.
Police confirmed to NBC that no one was injured.
