Los Angeles: New Warner Bros movie “Space Jam: A New Legacy” topped the North American box office over the weekend, grossing nearly $31.6 million in the best performance for a family movie since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this action-animated movie, a sequel to the movie “Spice Jam” released nearly a quarter of a century ago starring basketball legend Michael Jordan, NBA star LeBron James fights in one team with the famous bunny “Bugs Bunny” and other characters from the The world of Looney Tunes plays a high-profile basketball match against an AI-powered being who threatens his son.
The new work, despite negative comments on it, toppled the Disney movie “Black Widow”, which topped the rating last week. This latest movie starring Scarlett Johansson, grossed $25.6 million over the weekend, down from $80.4 million in last week’s earnings, according to Expeter Relations.
In third place was the psychological thriller “Escape Room: Tournament of Champions”, produced by “Sony”, with revenues of 8.8 million dollars. In this film, Taylor Russell and Logan Miller, reprising their roles in the 2019 movie “Escape Room,” encounter a series of deadly traps and puzzles set by the villain Minos.
And fourth place was occupied by the movie “F9: The Fast Saga” produced by “Universal”, with revenues of 7.6 million dollars, bringing the total revenues of this work starring Vin Diesel and John Cena to 154 million dollars in four weeks.
It was followed in fifth place by the animated film “THE BOSS BABY: FAMILY BUSINESS”, produced by “Universal”, with revenues of $4.7 million.
