A new study has revealed that the strange structures, which have been seen in the sky since 1960, can be attributed to the huge magnetic tunnel that surrounds the Earth and covers the solar system along with some nearby stars. The study by the University of Toronto, Canada, has found that structures known as the Arctic and the Milky Way in the Milky Way may be connected to an extensive system of magnetic filaments, and researchers have estimated that the structures lie about 350 light-years from the sun. The system, which West said is the “equivalent distance of travel between Toronto and Vancouver two trillion times”. She explained that two years ago, one of the study’s co-authors, Tom Landecker, told her about a related paper dating back to 1965, “from the early days of radio astronomy.” According to West, the paper’s authors speculated that “[…] Polarized radio signals can originate from our view of the local arm of the galaxy, from within it.” She added that astronomers have known about the north polarity of Spear and the Van region for decades, but most scientific theories have focused on these structures individually. West insists that she and her colleagues believe they are the first researchers to connect the structures as a single unit. “I think it’s great to imagine that these structures are ubiquitous whenever we look up at the night sky,” she said, expressing hope that perhaps more research-related discoveries are just a matter of time.

A new study has revealed that the strange structures, which have been seen in the sky since 1960, can be attributed to the huge magnetic tunnel that surrounds the Earth and covers the solar system along with some nearby stars.

The study, led by a group of astronomers from the University of Toronto, Canada, found that structures known as the Milky Way’s North and North Pole region may be connected by an extensive system of magnetic filaments.

“If we looked up in the sky, we would see this tunnel-like structure in almost every direction,” Jennifer West, a research assistant at the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Toronto, said in a press release. We looked — that is, if we had eyes that could see radio light.”

The researchers calculated that the structures lie about 350 light-years from the solar system, which West said is “a distance equal to travel between Toronto and Vancouver two trillion times.”

Scientists have warned that Earth’s magnetic field may be reversed by the remains of an ancient planet

She explained that two years ago, one of the study’s co-authors, Tom Landecker, told her about a related 1965 paper, “From the early days of radio astronomy.”

According to West, the paper’s authors speculated that “[…] Polarized radio signals can emerge from our view of the local arm of the galaxy, from within it.”

“This paper inspired me to develop this idea and connect my model to the vastly better data our telescopes provide us today,” the scientist noted.

She added that astronomers have known about the North Polar Spur and the Van region for decades, but most scientific theories have focused on these structures individually. West insisted that she and her colleagues believe they are the first researchers to connect the structures as a single unit.

“I think it’s great to imagine that these structures are everywhere whenever we look at the night sky,” she said, expressing hope that more discoveries linked to the research are just a matter of time.
