During live coverage provided by the agency responsible for the US space programme, which will begin at 9 a.m. EDT on NASA TV, the NASA App and the agency’s website, the astronauts will continue to equip the European robotic arm at the Naoka Laboratory on the International Space Station. However, the spacewalk is scheduled to begin around 9:20 am.

• A six-and-a-half hour trip

According to NASA’s official website, nasa.gov, Expedition 67 commander Oleg Artemyev and flight engineer Denis Matveev, both from Roscosmos, will begin the six-and-a-half hour journey by exiting the station’s space-facing Poisk module.
The primary goal of the spacewalk is to install cameras on the European robotic arm, move the arm’s external control panel from one operating area to another, remove launch restrictions near the end impactors or “hands” of the arm, and test the stiffening mechanism on the arm that will be used to facilitate accommodating payloads.

• A robotic arm to support plant maintenance and research

According to a NASA statement, in which it explained the dimensions of the mission, the European robotic arm will be used to transport payloads and equipment outside the Russian part of the station, to join the Canadian robotic arm Canadarm2 and the Japanese arm that already supports the station’s maintenance, operations and research.
Artemyev will wear the Russian Orlan spacesuit with red stripes, while Matveev will wear the Russian Orlan spacesuit with blue stripes. However, this mission will be the seventh spacewalk for Artemyev and the third for Matveyev.
