The Czech automaker Škoda Auto will be led by the current head of sales for the Volkswagen brand, Klaus Zellmer, from July 1, who replaces Thomas Schaeffer. Referring to its sources, the German magazine Automobilwoche reported this today.
As of today, Schäfer has taken over the operational management of the VW brand, but will also be driving Škoda Auto by the end of June.
Skoda, which belongs to the Volkswagen Group, like the Volkswagen brand, is expected to announce the selection of a new chief these days. In February, the weekly Škodovácký odborář reported that there were nine candidates in the match for the Škoda header. About a week ago, Automobilwoche wrote that there were only two shortlisted candidates, but today stated that Zellmer had won the selection. “Several sources say the same,” the magazine wrote.
Schaefer reached out to the president of the Czech automaker on August 3, 2020, so he will resign after nearly two years. In an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) in March, he stated that he wanted parent company Volkswagen to choose the Czech Republic to build a car battery plant. FAZ described Schaeffer’s support as a farewell gift.
