Today, the Emirati international referee, Jaber Al Zaabi, launches his career in managing the Arab Championship for men and women, held in Cairo, at his 61st stop in managing the world championships, an achievement for the sport of karate in the country.

The day before yesterday, the team’s delegation left to participate in the tournament, headed by the Assistant Secretary-General of the Emirates Karate Federation, Dr. Abdullah Saif Al-Badi, and it includes six players: Marwan Al-Mazmi, Youssef Faraidooni, Abdul-Ghani Muhammad, in (Kata), and Ahmed Salem Basalib in (Kumeti) weighed under 67 kilograms, along with the two players Hawraa Al-Ajmi and Fatima Salem Khaseef, within the weight (-50 kilograms) and (-68 kilograms) in the women’s singles (Kumeti), in addition to the international referee Jaber Al-Zaabi, and the coaching staff for the men’s and women’s teams, Comprised of: Waheed Hosseini, Nader Beji, Nasser Hosseini, and Torgay Yasil.

Al-Zaabi told “Emirates Today”, “The confidence of the Arab and international federations is not alien to the people of the Emirates, to represent the Arab Championship in Cairo, the 61st station in my career in managing world championships, in a new confirmation of the status that Emirati karate enjoys on the international scene. The latest of which is the International Federation’s invitation to me to run the World Games in Birmingham, USA, this 17th, as the first Emirati referee to manage these competitions, which are equivalent in terms of strength to the Olympic Games, in a course during which I had the honor of reaching the 60th championship in just 12 years of my career.

He explained, “The successes I achieved in the World Games were the reason behind giving me confidence again from the International Federation to join seven other referees, and to run the Islamic Solidarity Tournament next month in Turkey.”

In addition to being an international referee, Al-Zaabi holds the presidency of the Referees Committee in the UAE Federation, and a member of the Referees Committee in the Asian Confederation, in a career marked by many achievements as a player or referee.

He continued, “We have a distinguished number of international referees, namely: Abdullah Issa, Muhammad Al Rahma, and Aqeel Al-Awadi, in addition to Amna Al Dashti, the first Emirati female referee to succeed in managing the world championship competitions, in Dubai in November last year.”
