Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — In 2017, the United Arab Emirates announced its ambition to colonize Mars within the next 100 years.

Since then, the UAE has taken confident steps towards the “Mars 2117” project, which is to build the first Emirati human settlement on Mars by 2117, through several projects, most notably the “Probe of Hope” that orbits the red planet to provide an integrated picture of the atmosphere. Now, a Dubai-based Indian digital artist imagines what the first human settlement on the Red Planet might look like, in a series dubbed EMARTIA, meaning the Emirati settlement on Mars.

Digital artist Gio Mollor drew inspiration from the ambitious “Mars 2117” project, during which he presented his vision of what the Emirati settlement on Mars might look like.

To begin with, Mollor had to consider the enormous challenges of designing a habitable settlement on Mars.

So in the series, Mollor imagines creating an “artificial ozone layer covering the upper part of the settlement,” he says.

Molor explains that the design of “Emaratia” comes with an architecture that embodies Emirati culture, taking into account futuristic and environmentally friendly specifications.

In order to make the series closer to reality, Mollor used real sites on Mars discovered by the US space agency “NASA”, such as the “Columbia Hills” and the “Jezero” crater.

Like the Emirates, the settlement “Emaratia” includes seven emirates connected to a single headquarters, according to Mollor.

Perhaps the most notable part of the series is imagining what the first hotel on Mars would look like, which bears remarkable similarities to the iconic Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

Mollor explains why he chose a design that mimics the Burj Al Arab, saying that the building is “an example of the wonderful architecture that is unique to Dubai in particular, and the Emirates in general.”

Mollor shared with his followers many different perceptions of the first hotel on Mars, leaving the audience free to choose the most beautiful design, indicating that he is still receiving a lot of responses from them so far.

According to Mollor’s vision, the hotel will be one of the most futuristic hotels with advanced technological features.

As for the means of transportation on Mars, Mollor was inspired by the “SpaceX” missions, which were founded by Elon Musk, to envision options that would transport the residents of the “Emaratia” settlement easily.

Vehicles resembling spacecraft, flying taxis, and high-speed hyperloop trains bearing the symbol of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority appear.

Of course, the main landmarks of the UAE stand out in the “Emaratia” settlement, such as Burj Khalifa and the Museum of the Future, as they are in their natural form due to their symbolism, in addition to other famous landmarks in the Emirates, such as the World Trade Center and the Emirates Towers.

Mollor pointed out that he tried through the series to bring mainly Arab architectural styles that reflect the Arab culture of the UAE.

Since he began sharing it through his official account on “Instagram”, this ongoing series has received widespread feedback from the platform’s pioneers, who admired the images that provide visual pleasure and promising ideas for the “Mars 2117” project.

Mullor plans to launch the “Emaratia” series in the world of “Metaverse”, with the aim of enabling people to visit it in the virtual world.
