Apple has released battery cases for iPhones in the past, but the new package connects to iPhone 12 phones thanks to the built-in magnet.
The battery pack works with all four phones in the iPhone 12 family – iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
And while iPhone 11 battery cases have a camera shortcut button, given that the accessory is just an attachable package, that means it doesn’t come with any other features for your phone besides giving you some extra power.
But if it works like a MagSafe wireless charger, you may also be able to use the bundle to charge AirPods or other devices that support Qi wireless charging.
Apple says the package charges with up to 5 watts of power, so it won’t be the fastest way to charge your phone.
The MagSafe battery pack isn’t the first power bank to use Apple’s new magnetic system to connect to iPhone 12 devices. Anker is offering a 5,000mAh battery with 5W slower charging for $45.99. But it is the first from Apple and can charge up to 15 watts while connected to the mains.
and in support pageThe company also says that the battery requires iOS 14.7 – an unreleased software update.
Apple launches MagSafe battery pack
Given that Apple’s website shows delivery times for the battery pack as early as July 22, it looks like this update is coming out soon to support it.
Apple also offers a wallet that can magnetically stick to the back of your phone.
And if both the iPhone and the MagSafe battery pack need to be charged, you can charge them both at the same time. Connect the MagSafe battery pack to your iPhone and then connect the pack to a power adapter. Using a 20W or higher power adapter, the MagSafe kit can charge your iPhone with up to 15W of charging power.
You can also charge both if you connect the MagSafe battery pack to your iPhone and then connect your iPhone to a power source. And you might want to charge this way if you need to connect your iPhone to another device while it’s charging, like if you’re using CarPlay wired or transferring photos to your Mac.
And if you charge your iPhone and MagSafe battery pack at the same time. Your iPhone may be charged to 80 percent or higher before the MagSafe battery pack begins charging.
