Media circles in Iran and social media were preoccupied with the news of the arrest of fashion models, and their placement under investigation.
The Public Prosecutor of Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, northwest of Iran, Mehrab Pour-Akbar, announced the arrest of 4 models and the owner of a textile shop in this city.
In a statement he made to IRNA news agency, Pour Akbar explained that the arrested women “participated in the opening ceremony of the shop as models,” noting that the authorities had closed the aforementioned shop until further notice and that the case of these people “is currently under investigation.”
The public prosecutor did not provide other details about the charges, etc.
However, Akbar Tayug, Public Relations Officer at West Azerbaijan Court, had revealed earlier that the shop had been closed and its owner arrested, and said that the other perpetrators had been identified and were under prosecution.
The judicial official also clarified that this shop is accused of “non-observance of norms and conditions, illegal advertising, and women’s participation without adherence to instructions.”

It is noteworthy that, during the past two days, social media circulated videos from the opening ceremony of a fabric store in the city of Mahabad, with the participation of women.
The authorities have carried out large-scale arrest campaigns in recent months for the same reason, most of them targeting fashion models.
