International midfielder Leon Goretzka has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich until 2026, joining team-mate Joshua Kimmich who has committed to a new contract with the German Football League champions for the last nine years.
Goritska’s contract was due to expire at the end of this season, but the midfielder committed to a long contract weeks after Kimmich extended his contract until 2025.
“We are delighted to have Jozoa Kimic and Leon Goretzka, the heart of our team,” said Bosnian sporting director Hasan Salimaddjic.
Since joining Bayern from Schalke 04 three years ago, the 26-year-old has formed a solid duo with Kimmich in the middle and Germany, winning three league titles as well as the 2020 Champions League.
He scored 25 goals in 118 with the Bavarian team, and he wants additional success, saying: “We have won everything with Bayern in the last three years, but the most important thing than winning titles is repeating the successes. We want to build on that in the coming years,” and he continued, “The team, The club and the atmosphere are not only professional, but family-friendly.”
Under this extension, Bayern will have retained most of its stars for the coming years. The contracts of captain Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, Poland’s Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry and France’s Kingsley Coman expire in 2023.
As for the two Frenchmen, Benjamin Bavar and Lucas Hernandez, their contracts expire in 2024, and Leroy Sane and Canadian Alfonso Davies in 2025 and the promising Jamal Musiala in 2026, and at the end of the current season, the contracts of French midfielder Corentin Tolisso and defender Niklas Zule will expire.
