Brazil defeats Colombia in a controversial match

Brazil trailed for the first time in eight matches but responded with a controversial goal before snatching a 2-1 victory over Colombia in stoppage time in the Copa America soccer tournament.
The defending champions entered the game after winning their last nine matches but were conceded 10 minutes later when Luis Diaz scored a stunning goal.

Juan Cuadrado crossed from the right and Diaz, the Porto midfielder, jumped in an acrobatic manner to hit the ball directly at Everton.

Brazil had the ball and created all the chances, but Colombia did a great job closing spaces in front of the hosts’ attack.

Brazil equalized 12 minutes before the end, controversially.

With Brazil launching an attack, the ball hit referee Nestor Pitana and Colombia players waited to stop play, but the Argentine referee, who refereed the 2018 World Cup final, signaled to continue playing.

Brazil took advantage of that and Roberto Firmino headed a cross pass into David Ospina’s goal, who slipped the ball from his hand on the night he equaled Carlos Valderrama’s record number of participation in 111 games with the national team.

Colombia players protested the award of the goal even after the VAR review.

The protests led to 10 minutes of injury time and Casemiro added to Colombia’s anguish when he headed in a last-minute corner kick to give Brazil their third win in three matches in the tournament.

Brazil was guaranteed to qualify for the quarter-finals, while Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela are competing for three other seats.
