British Foreign Secretary Lis Truss confirmed on Saturday that his country was “advising” Ukraine’s representatives on talks with Russia.
Truss said, in Interview with Daily Telegraph The British government has said it has set up a London negotiating team to assist Ukraine.
He further added that “Russia is not currently actively interested in negotiations. For this reason, we must work hard to achieve peace.”
“There is a need to double sanctions and double the supply of arms to Ukraine,” Truss said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that “the Ukrainian negotiating representatives participating in the talks with Russia do not represent the Ukrainian perspective, but act in accordance with US recommendations.”
“Unlike what we are witnessing in Ukraine, if the person you are contacting represents his side, it is possible to have a constructive dialogue, depending on what the negotiating delegation commands the United States,” Zakarova added.
Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation for talks with the Ukrainian side, said on Friday that there was a co-ordination between Russia and Ukraine on small issues, but that key issues were stuck together.
