British-Egyptian cooperation on climate cooperation ahead of COP summit

United Nations Climate Change Conference on COP 26 Climate Cooperation for the International Climate Conference before the COP 26 and COP 27 Summits

In this context, during his first visit to Egypt, the top UN envoy for COP26 Climate Action Representative Nigel Topping met with senior government officials, businesses, universities and members of civil society to discuss how the UK can work with Egypt to tackle climate change challenges. COP26 in November, according to a report by the British Embassy in Cairo today.

During his visit, Topping met with Environment Minister Dr. Yasmin Fat, Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Dr. Mohammad Sehgar, Deputy Foreign Minister Hamdi Lusa and Assistant Minister for Housing Walid Abbas of the New Urban Community Commission.

During those meetings, the parties discussed the cooperation between Egypt and the United Kingdom in the Adaptation Action Coalition, in addition to Egypt’s interests and related needs. Topping welcomed Egypt’s strong candidacy to host the COP27 International Climate Conference next year.

Green Hydrogen is a topic of mutual interest, as Egypt seeks to mass-produce and export to the region, as well as exploring the possibility of smart and green cities joining Race to Resilience, a global campaign to protect the backlog of 4 billion people by 2030.

Topping met with university and youth representatives and the British Council to celebrate those universities, including the University of Cairo, for joining the “Race to Global Carbon Neutrality” campaign for the cast’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050. .


Nigel Topping said: “I am pleased to visit Egypt and meet with senior ministers of the Egyptian government to see how we can work together to tackle the challenges of climate change ahead of COP26. I look forward to continuing to work with Egypt to host.

Gareth Bailey, the British ambassador to Egypt, said: “As we look forward to hosting COP26 next month and handing over the presidency to Egypt as the next year’s nominee, our visit to Egypt is more important than ever to protect net zero emissions, protect the environment and protect the environment. Intensify cooperation with Egyptian partners to agree on the best course of action we can take.


Topping will continue its series of visits to the region and around the world to enhance cooperation in climate change activities, promote businesses, investors, companies and cities, and coordinate this work with governments and parties for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. He hopes to return to Egypt in the new year.
