Jessica Chastain won the Best Actress Oscar for her role as a television missionary in “The Eyes of Tami Fay,” the first time the California-born actress has received Hollywood’s top honors.
Chastain, 45, wowed Academy members with an intricate performance that totally changed her, thanks to Tami Fay’s many accessories, wigs and heavy makeup for her embodiment of the late singer. Accepting her award, Chastain said, “It’s times like these that I think of Tammy. Her daring deeds of love have inspired me… Her compassion has inspired me, and I see it as a guiding principle.” By winning the Academy Award, Chastain earned Best Actress in Hollywood for her third nomination overall. Chastain beat out her competitors on the list, Penelope Cruz (Paralle Mathers), Kristen Stewart (Spencer), Nicole Kidman (Bing the Riccardos), and Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter).
