In recent years, the Paris brand has played the role of a fairly popular automaker with bold design in the PSA and Stellantis collections, so there’s not a lot of room left for the more expensive, representative models. The “Cé-Five” left the European market in its second generation in 2017, the C6 sedan five years earlier. The pioneering role was performed by the C5 Aircross SUV, but this mission is now taken over by the C5 X model.
With a length of 4805 mm, a width of 1,865 mm and a height of 1,485 mm, this is a classic D-Class, that is, the middle class. Higher than the standard is the wheelbase of 2785 mm, which provides ample legroom for the crew.
It is not easy to determine the body type. The car acquires SUV elements with fenders, bumpers and sills coated in plastic or increased ground clearance. The stern slopes sharply in a hatchback style, and the silhouette resembles an elegant station wagon with a sloping roofline.
Like the Renault Scénic, the new C5 X sets off a high, narrow wheel strategy. The front with the standard LED headlights and the letter X continues the light signature of the new-generation C4 model.
The interior also features elements reminiscent of the new C4. The dominant feature is the 12-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, while the ventilation control is separate. The transparent display has been greatly expanded and for the first time this brand is not using additional glass. The luggage compartment has a volume of 545 liters or 1640 liters with the seats folded down.
Modernity reaches the standard statute of the French part of the Stellantis collection, so it has foundations in common with Peugeot 508 or DS 9. This also allows the car to install a 225hp hybrid system using a supercharged 16 petrol and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The electricity range is 50 km.
Details of the other engines were not provided by the French, but they were likely gasoline and supercharged – 16 hundred are offered without an electric motor with 180 hp, or even a base in the form of a twelve-cylinder with a three-cylinder – a cylinder that can handle 155 hp.
Driving aides run the standard phase 2 autonomous driving. Citroen is once again focusing on comfort. This is to provide advanced sound insulation and soft foam seats as well as cushioning. The days of active water-air suspension have been added, hydraulic shock absorbers stations will be a small alternative, but in the case of the plug-in hybrid there is also a new system with adaptive shock absorbers with three degrees of stiffness.
The novelty will appear on the market in the second half of 2021.
