Yesterday, the activities of the Ninth Arab Conference on Human Genetics, organized by the Arab Center for Genetic Studies under the patronage of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, concluded. The conference was supported by the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, the Dubai Health Authority, the Emirates Medical Association, Alumina and Integrated Gulf Biosystems.
The conference, which was held on December 8 and 9, discussed the topic of genomics in the Arab world through four main themes, including developments in the field of rare diseases, huge Arab genomic data, genomics of infection and immunity, genomics and society, and all participants received 12 hours of medical education. Continuously accredited by the UAE University.
The activities of the second and last day of the conference included 8 lectures given by a group of distinguished lecturers, where Prof. Dr. Evan Eichler from the University of Washington gave a lecture entitled “Rare Variants and Genetics of Autism and Developmental Retardation” while researcher Sami Bazari from the Arab Center for Genetic Studies discussed the experience of a database of genetic diseases in The Arabs” Dr. Alice Abdel Alim gave a lecture on “Clinical and Genetic Database” and Dr. Maya Saqr gave a lecture on “Reviewing the Genetic Counseling Scene in the Arab World,” followed by a lecture by Dr. Shakir Behzad from the Kuwait Genetic Medical Center entitled “The Hereditary Cancer Clinic: A Perspective” Genetics Specialist” Then Dr. Refaat Hammoudi from the University of Sharjah presented a lecture on “Using Bioinformatics and Silico Analysis followed by in vivo biological verification to decode the molecular mechanism of COVID-19 infection”, while Dr. Sibel Mihawej from the Lebanese American University presented a lecture entitled “Precision Medicine” In diseases of immune dysregulation.” Then Prof. Dr. Abdullah Al-Anjari gave a lecture on “Genetics of Immunodeficiency Errors.” congenital in children.
The conference included many activities and competitions, where Nasna Nasser from the Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Rima Salous from the United Arab Emirates University and Hoda Samha from the United Arab Emirates University won the award for the best research poster in the conference chosen by the scientific committee. Fozan Seddiqi from Osh State University International College of Medicine and Mona Azrowal from Tambov State Medical University Tambov Russia with the award for the best research poster that gets the most votes.
During his closing speech, Dr. Mahmoud Talib Al Ali, Director of the Arab Center for Genetic Studies, expressed his sincere thanks to all the lecturers, poster presenters and members of the Scientific Committee. He also thanked the sponsors of the conference and the work team of the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences for their support of the conference for this conference as well as He thanked all the attendees and congratulated the winners of the poster prizes and competitions.
