After a mixed start for both teams and their new coaches in the German Football League, Bayern Munich will clash with its stubborn traditional rival, Borussia Dortmund, tomorrow, Tuesday, for the German Super Cup title.
Bayern’s start in the league this season did not come as the desire and plans of its new coach, Julian Nagelsmann, as the team began the journey to defend its title in the “Bundesliga” with a 1-1 draw with Borussia Moenchengladbach.
On the other hand, Dortmund made a good start in the “Bundesliga” led by coach Marco Rose and beat Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2.
Despite this, the two teams seem to have equal chances of winning the first title of the current season when they meet tomorrow for the Super Cup.
The result of tomorrow’s match between the two big teams may give an indication of what the competition will be like in the current season.
“We also hope to win,” said Nagelsmann, who has never won a major title. “Now we have to turn our focus to Tuesday’s match.”
Nagelsmann is now looking to achieve his first win with Bayern, as the team did not win any victory under his leadership during the friendly matches he played in preparation for the current season.
“We already know that we still have the ability to rotate our game,” Nagelsmann said, which many players in the team confirm.
“We still have some things that we need to improve,” said star Thomas Muller. “We will work on that before Tuesday’s game.”
On the other hand, his colleague Leon Goretzka admitted: “We still have a lot to do. I am confident that our level will improve from one game to another during the first half of the season.”
Bayern won the Super Cup at the expense of Dortmund last season, but lost to Dortmund the season before last.
But Bayern won the “Bundesliga” title in each of the two seasons, as was the case when Bayern lost to Dortmund in the Super Cup in 2013 and 2014, then crowned the “Bundesliga” title in both seasons.
Thus, despite what tomorrow’s match may look like in the current season, its result is not a prediction of the identity of the team that will win the “Bundesliga” title at the end of the season.
But the star-studded Bayern, who barely had a chance to rest after the European Nations Cup (Euro 2020), may be more fragile than usual.
On the other hand, it seems that Rose succeeded quickly in regaining the activity of his international players returning to the team after participating in Euro 2020 as well.
“It was a great show, but the best thing is that we can improve even more,” said striker Giovanni Reina after the victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
But a player like Erling Haaland may not wait for a greater improvement in his level, especially as he performed a great performance and scored two goals in the Eintracht Frankfurt match and participated in making the other three goals.
