Yesterday, visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai experienced a unique historical event, by watching a live, twenty-minute live call between French astronaut Thomas Baskett, from the International Space Station, and the Ambassador of the France Pavilion, in the presence of Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Franck Riester, Minister of Trade and International Cooperation, from Al Wasl Square at the Expo.
The astronaut expressed his happiness to meet the visitors of the Expo in Dubai, wishing to visit the event after his return to Earth, praising the efforts made by the UAE in the field of space, and congratulating the Emirati people on the historic achievement achieved by the country in its first mission to Mars after the success of its probe. Exploratory probe “Hope”, to enter the orbit of the red planet.
He also praised the cooperation between France and the UAE in all fields and the granting of space sciences to serve all of humanity.
The student, Sufian Al-Muhairi, participated in the direct dialogue with the astronaut by inquiring about the changes that Thomas had observed and the messages he wanted to express through the photographs he had taken from space.
The astronaut replied that he had already recorded many variables in the atmosphere, most notably the apparent pollution in the joule atmosphere, explaining that the role of astronauts is to record these observations, help scientists study these phenomena, and find appropriate solutions to preserve the atmosphere.
In turn, the student, Leah, from the French School in Dubai, participated in the dialogue, inquiring about the research he is conducting in his space mission. Thomas replied that his research is related to medicine, science, space and the investment of space to serve humanity, pointing out that the space world is a common area for all for cooperation and sharing in the service of all humanity.
