Actress Scarlett Johansson and Disney announced that they have reached an agreement over a financial dispute that has erupted between them since the movie “Black Widow” was made available via streaming at the same time as it was shown in cinemas, which the American star considered a breach of contract.
And Johansson, who is considered one of the most prominent and highest-paid Hollywood stars, was supposed to receive a percentage of the box office revenues from the highly anticipated “Marvel” movie in which she plays the main role, according to the text of a lawsuit she filed at the end of last July to a court in Los Angeles.
The French Press Agency indicated that Johansson considered showing the film simultaneously in cinemas and on the video-on-demand platform “Disney +” of the giant entertainment company, missing her millions of dollars in profits.
Disney, which owns Marvel Studios, which specializes in superhero films, confirmed that it had not breached the contract, and regretted Johansson’s neglect of “the horrific and continuing global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
The film was originally scheduled to be shown on the big screen last year, but its release was postponed more than once due to Covid-19.
However, the water returned to its course between Johansson and “Disney” thanks to the agreement, the details of which have not been disclosed yet.
“I’m so glad we were able to resolve our differences with (Disney),” the actress wrote in a statement.
She added, “I am very proud of the work we have accomplished together over the years, and I greatly value my artistic relationship with the (Disney) team, and I look forward to continuing our collaboration in the coming years.”
As for Disney Studios president, Alan Bergman, he expressed his satisfaction that “a mutual agreement has been reached with Scarlett Johansson on (Black Widow),” welcoming his “contributions to the (Marvel) movie franchise.”
The specialized website Deadline quoted a source familiar with the file as saying that the value of the agreement amounted to “tens of millions” of dollars.
