Sotheby’s International Auctions house will display a collection of the late artist Hind Rostom’s jewelry, starting today (October 4th) until 7th of this month, at the Dubai International Financial Center, in preparation for the auction that will be held by the house in Geneva on November 10. Hend Rostom (1929 – 2011), the able Egyptian artist, and the most famous face of Egyptian and Arab cinema in her golden age, was famous for her passion for collecting jewelry and sourcing pieces from all over the world through her favorite jewelry store in Cairo, in addition to designing a number of distinctive pieces. Hind also participated regularly in auctions, searching for her favorite gemstones – diamonds and rubies – among the selected antiques.
With this exhibition, collectors will have the opportunity to acquire a piece of her jewellery, from a selection from her personal collection, which her family is displaying for the first time. Eight pieces will be auctioned at Sotheby’s “Magnificent Jewels & Noble Jewels” in Geneva on November 10. Prior to the auction, a diamond and emerald bracelet, a striking necklace and a pair of diamond earrings designed by David Webb will be on display in The Heart of Dubai, at Sotheby’s in the Dubai International Financial Centre.
In this context, Sotheby’s Dubai is organizing two simultaneous exhibitions this month, during which the list of Sotheby’s international auctions will be revealed, while providing support to the art and design scene at the local level, all of these events will be in the heart of the Dubai International Financial Centre. Six UAE-based jewelery makers will be exhibiting their designs, along with a selection of works by Emirati artists curated by Engage 101. The aesthetic of the image is complemented by the presentation of rare masterpieces of classical Islamic art, exquisite gemstones, and rare pieces bearing the “Faberge” brand.
Not only that, the list of jewelry houses that display their works include “Savulina”, “Caravan”, “Yatagan”, “Misk”, “Susanna Martins” and “Hashi”, but all of their collections are designed with well-established expertise in Dubai.
