Mohamed El-Shennawy, the goalkeeper of the Egyptian national team, praised the role of his country’s fans in their 1-0 victory over the Lebanese team today, Wednesday, in the first round of the fourth group matches of the group stage of the Arab Cup, currently being held in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Al-Shennawy said in media statements after the match that the fans played an important role in encouraging the players to cross the obstacle of the opening match.
“We achieved the goal of the first match, which is to win and collect the three points, and we will immediately start preparing for the second match,” he added.
He explained, “We performed well and missed a number of goals in the first half that were enough to leave us with more winners than the only goal.”
With this result, the Egyptian team became second in the group standings with 3 points, with a goal difference behind the Algerian team (the leaders), equal with it in the same balance, after its 4-0 victory over Sudan earlier today in the same round.
Egypt will play its Sudanese counterpart in the second round of the group next Saturday, before facing Algeria in the last round next Tuesday.
