Egyptian TV officials responded to the news circulated in the past hours regarding the referral of the director of the Egyptian Al-Ahly meeting and its guest, Raja Al-Maghrib, in the first leg of the African Champions League quarter-finals, for investigation.

An official source on Egyptian television said: “Nasr was not referred for investigation, as some say.”

Director Mohamed Nasr El-Din sparked widespread controversy in the Al-Ahly and Raja match, after the Congolese referee Jean-Jacques Ndala awarded a penalty kick to the Egyptian team, after 10 minutes had passed.

A Nadala was summoned by the Algerian video referee, Mehdi Abeid, to review a game that had doubts about handball against the Raja player inside the penalty area.

The first television replay showed that the ball was in the hand of the Raja defender, and the referee awarded a penalty, but the director raised doubts about the game by broadcasting a replay from a reverse angle (after making the decision) showing that the ball hit the foot of the Raja player, not his hand.

Nasr was subjected to a sharp attack after the official page of the Raja club published a picture of him on Facebook, describing him as “one of the stars of the match” in a sarcastic comment.

An official source on Egyptian television said: “Nasr was not referred for investigation, as some say.”

He added, “The director is innocent of the crisis of the Al-Ahly and Raja match.”

He concluded: “The TV director of any match is not responsible for the video cameras and the mechanism of their work in football matches, because there is a special filming of the video technology devices.”
