Sameh Shogri, Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the twenty-seventh session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, delivered a speech during the opening session of the conference, “Zero Emissions Summit: A Just Transition”. , which was organized by the City of London in collaboration with the Egyptian President of the Climate Conference in the British capital.
A speech by Egypt’s Ambassador to the UK, Sherif Kamal, on behalf of the Foreign Minister, addressed the importance of fair transition as one of the pillars of the Paris Agreement on climate change and preventing conflict between climate actions. and realizing sustainable development, which was one of the most important outcomes of the Sharm el-Sheikh conference and came in response to the claims of many actors in the climate change negotiations.
On the other hand, the speech reflected the belief of the Egyptian leadership of the Climate Conference in the need to continue dialogue between all actors to achieve the best ways and practices for a just transition. The framework of the conference, which will be held in London with the participation of financial and economic leaders and the private sector from around the world, will explore ways to activate and engage the financial and business community to finance just change.
The high-level meeting was attended by Minister of Finance Mohamed Mait, climate pioneer for the Egyptian presidency of the conference Mahmoud Mohildin and the chief Egyptian negotiator of the Conference of Parties on Climate Change, Ambassador Mohamed Nasr.
It should be noted that the convention was announced during the COP27 climate conference in Sharm el-Sheikh last November.
