Inventor, founder and owner of the American space company “X Space”, Elon Musk, revealed that when designing the “Raptor” rocket engine, he was inspired by a number of his ideas from Russian inventions.

In an interview with “Everyday Astronaut” he said, “I try to dispel the misconception that the design is the hardest. It’s not the hardest. There have already been many great rocket designs. I spend a lot of time studying Russian rocket engine design. There are great Russian engines, they handle With liquid-fueled rocket engines for a long time, I’ve made literally hundreds of different designs.”

“The problem is not the possibility of creating a rocket with a liquid-fuel engine, because this task has already been completed,” he added.

“Of course, our engine is more compressed than before, and it has a full range of combustion components, but these are relatively small improvements to what the Russians have done in practice … The very difficult thing about the Raptor, is how to make a missile at a cost of less than a thousand dollars per ton.”

The American billionaire stressed that this indicator could make humanity a civilization that lives on several different planets.

The Raptor is a closed-cycle rocket engine that runs on liquid methane and oxygen, and Musk expects to be used on spacecraft.
