ABU DHABI, 12th October / WAM/ The Emirates Cycling Team announced today that it has collaborated with the “Ali BTC Ljubljana” women’s team to form an Emirati women’s cycling team in 2022.
The announcement comes after the start of the Paris-Roubaix Women’s Tour, which led to the promotion of women’s cycling, and the return of the Tour de France, which will be held in the summer of 2022, which is expected to contribute to the development and popularity of women’s cycling.
In keeping with the spirit of the new era of inclusion and equality, Team Emirates will join the list of other international cycling teams, such as Trek Segafredo, Jumbo Visma and Movistar, which have succeeded in establishing a women’s team alongside the men’s team.
Commenting on the announcement and the possibility of the UAE team joining the world of women’s cycling, Mauro Gianetti, Emirates Team Manager, said: “We are pleased to announce the establishment of a women’s team that will participate in international competitions, and contribute to the ambitious global Emirates team project that was launched in 2017 and aims to develop cycling. And by collaborating with Team Ali BTC Ljubljana, we found the right opportunity we were looking for, and we are currently working with the UCI to prepare the documents needed to obtain the World Tour license from January 1, 2022, and in the coming weeks we will be able to define the final frameworks We will be ready to present the project.
