MANAMA, 1st February / WAM / Today, the 33rd General Assembly of the Asian Football Confederation was held in the Bahraini capital, Manama, where His Excellency Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa was re-elected as President of the Asian Football Confederation, for a third election cycle until 2027.. He was also elected Abdullah Nasser Al-Junaibi, First Vice President of the UAE Football Association, President of the Professional League, and member of the Executive Office of the Asian Football Confederation.
5 representatives of the continent of Asia were also elected to the FIFA Council, and they are Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Qatar Football Association, Yasser Al-Mishal, President of the Saudi Football Association, Kozo Tashima from Japan, and Datuk Haji Hamdin bin Haji from Malaysia. And Mariano Araneta from the Philippines, in addition to Kanya Keumani from Laos, on the executive office, to be also the 6 representatives of the Asian continent on the FIFA Council.
The meeting also witnessed the announcement of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s victory in hosting the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, for the first time in its history. The 5 deputies of the AFC President were also elected, namely Hashem Haidar from Lebanon for the West, and Mahdi Taj from Iran. , for the “center”, Ogyen Tsichop from Bhutan for the “south”, Zaw Zaw from Myanmar for the “ASEAN”, and Ganbaatar Amjalanbaatar from Mongolia for the east.
