Sharjah, November 1, WAM/ His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated this evening “Tuesday” in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the 41st edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair. Organized by the Sharjah Book Authority under the slogan “A Word to the World” during the period from 2 to 13 November, at the Expo Center Sharjah.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, in a speech on the occasion of the opening, welcomed the attendance of scholars, writers and intellectuals from the guests of the Sharjah Book Fair, pointing out that in the past two years the fair witnessed the launch of the first parts of the historical lexicon of the Arabic language.
His Highness announced the launch of the new parts of the dictionary, congratulating His Highness on this great scientific achievement and said: “As we gather on this great occasion, I congratulate all the sons of Arabia for this achievement that we have been waiting for a long time, and our happiness and your happiness today is great with these 36 parts that date to 9 letters of the Arabic letters, and today we are in the middle of the road and the near future is full of bounties, God willing.”
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah addressed the importance and benefits of the dictionary in research and history, its comprehensiveness of all Arabic linguistic knowledge and its informational uniqueness. The nation, its history, and the collection of its poems, news, and examples, starting from the era of ancient inscriptions and passing through all the historical eras of the Arabs, all the way to the modern era.”
His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, thanked everyone who worked and helped to complete the historical dictionary from the distinguished scholars. His Highness said: “O scholars of Arabic everywhere, you who have made efforts to achieve this success, in the name of all the sons of Arabia, we extend our sincere thanks to you, and this day is The day you rejoice and rejoice in the greatness of the achievement.”
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah concluded his speech by referring to the great cultural event that the emirate is experiencing these days, calling on everyone to benefit from it. He said: “Sharjah lives more than 10 days of cultural movement through the Sharjah International Book Fair, other than what is displayed between its wings of books in various knowledge and sciences, and we take this opportunity to invite everyone, old and young, men and women, to attend this exhibition, and to take advantage of the sciences, knowledge and cultures in its halls in various languages of the world.”
His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, took a souvenir photo with the scholars who contributed to the project of the historical lexicon of the Arabic language from the heads of the linguistic academies in the Arab world.
His Highness honored the cultural personality of the year in the exhibition for this session, the Sudanese historian Professor Youssef Fadl Hassan.
His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, delivered a speech in which he addressed the great importance of the Sharjah Book Fair and the continuous development that it has achieved, making Sharjah a destination for books and a global station for culture.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority announced that the Sharjah International Book Fair for the second year in a row was at the forefront of international book fairs, to continue the largest exhibition in the world, at the level of buying and selling copyright and translation.
In his speech, Al Ameri expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, for his support of the exhibition for many years. From His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, he has all of us in Sharjah all thanks and blessings.”
Al-Amiri thanked all the participants in the exhibition and said: “Access to this place came with your presence and participation, and all thanks to the work team that worked hard and stayed awake to deserve this global standing.”
For his part, Professor Youssef Fadl delivered a speech on the occasion of his honoring as the Cultural Personality of the Year, in which he thanked and appreciated His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his cultural and knowledge efforts in all countries of the world.
In his speech, he said: “His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah has white hands and unlimited efforts in supporting scholars, students of science, universities and institutes, and constructive efforts in the fields of developing relations between Arab countries and the rest of the world’s cultures through conducting dialogues and holding specialized conferences.” For all these efforts over the past four decades.
He expressed his thanks and appreciation for choosing him as the cultural personality of the year and honoring him in an honor that he is proud of being in the Emirate of Culture, Book, Science and Knowledge.
For his part, Lorenzo Vanara, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to the country, expressed his happiness for his presence as a representative of Italy, the guest of honor of the new session of the “Sharjah International Book Fair”, and said: “Sharjah is not only the capital of culture in the Arab world, but the capital of the book in the entire world.” .
He referred to the achievements of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, which contributed to the consolidation of Sharjah’s position in cultural history, and explained that Italy participates with a large number of writers, chefs, and 12 publishing houses, with a group of theatrical, artistic and dance performances. Based on its belief in the necessity of investing in culture and cultural dialogue, promoting common values, and arming future generations of young people with critical thinking, by urging them to read more books.
The ceremony began with an artistic show that included creative digital paintings, and live performances embodying the importance of the word, and its impact on building civilizations. It stated: “Everything begins with a word, which the mind receives to form meaning, so it builds civilization and life. future generations.”
The ceremony witnessed a visual presentation that tells of the process of completing the historical dictionary of the Arabic language, which Sharjah is honored to launch, in several stages, as one of the great efforts of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in paying attention to the Arabic language, its history and documentation, in cooperation with all linguistic academies in various Arab countries, where the dictionary works to date 17 centuries of the history of the vocabulary of the language of Daad.
After the opening ceremony, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah toured the corridors of the exhibition, briefing His Highness on a number of pavilions of the participating institutions, bodies and publishing houses, and reviewing what the exhibition offers in its current session.
His Highness began his tour of the exhibition by visiting the Italian pavilion, the guest of honor for this year’s exhibition, and listened to a detailed explanation of what the pavilion offers in its distinguished participation in this session.
His Highness stopped at the pavilions of many cultural institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah, learning about their most prominent efforts in supporting the cultural movement and promoting the literary, cultural and scientific production of Emirati and Arab writers and intellectuals.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah visited the pavilions of local, Gulf and Arab publishing houses to see their latest publications in various sciences, knowledge and literature.
His Highness was shown on the pavilions of a number of initiatives and activities that keep pace with Sharjah’s cultural march with a number of awards and programs offered at the state level and international participations that promote the publishing movement, instill reading and writing in children and develop skills.
During his visit to Al Qasimi publications, His Highness signed a number of copies of the publications of His Highness Sultan Kilwa and Al Dariya, presenting these copies to some of the exhibition’s guests.
During his tour, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah received a number of gifts and cultural, scientific and literary publications from the participating pavilions, writers and intellectuals.
The 41st Sharjah International Book Fair this year will host 2,213 publishers from 95 countries, including 1,298 Arab and 915 foreign publishers.
The exhibition organizes 123 artistic performances, presented by 22 participants from 8 countries, including 6 new programs being held for the first time, in addition to more than 30 events dedicated to the most prominent chefs in the region and the world.
150 prominent Arab and foreign writers, thinkers, innovators and artists from 15 countries will participate in the exhibition’s activities, providing 1,500 events and various dialogue sessions, including 200 cultural events that include sessions, readings, workshops, and speeches about their creative experiences in various types of knowledge and authorship.
Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the International Publishers Association, Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Art Foundation, Sheikh Khalid bin Essam Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation, and Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Department of Government Relations, attended the opening ceremony, along with His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.
