Doha, December 3, WAM/ The Dutch national football team continued its successful start in the 2022 World Cup, and qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament by defeating its American counterpart 3-1 today, Saturday, in the first matches of the second round (round of 16) of the tournament.
The Dutch national team reserved the first seats in the quarter-finals, in which it will meet the winning team from the Argentina match with Australia, which will be held later today in the second round as well.
The Dutch and American teams presented a strong and fast match, in which the American team was a strong match, but failed to overcome the experience of the Dutch team.
The start of the match witnessed a good opportunity for the American team, in which striker Christian Pulisic missed success. The response came strong and quickly from the Dutch team, by scoring the goal of progress through Memphis Depay in the tenth minute, to be Depay’s first goal in the current World Cup.
Depay, the Barcelona striker, missed the first two matches of the Dutch team in the tournament due to injury and did not score any goal with his participation in the third match in the first round.
The American team tried to respond and took possession of the ball more than its Dutch counterpart in some periods, and a valuable opportunity was missed by Timothy Weah in the 43rd minute, so the Dutch response came immediately after that by scoring the second goal through Daley Blind in the first minute of stoppage time, knowing that Denzel Dumfries is Who made the two goals of the Dutch team in this half.
In the second half, the two teams continued their offensive attempts after the changes made by each of them, and the American team fired several chances towards the Dutch goal until Haji Wright scored the goal of renewing hope for the American team in the 76th minute.
But the Dutch national team responded quickly with the third goal through Denzel Dumfries in the 81st minute, to end the Dutch national team in their favor and qualify for the quarter-finals.
