An European Union agency has frozen some $130 million in Lebanese assets as part of an investigation into allegations of embezzlement.

A statement issued by the European Judicial Cooperation Unit “Eurogast” said that property and bank accounts linked to five people were confiscated in several European Union countries, including France and Germany.

The statement did not name the names, but German prosecutors told Reuters that Central Bank of Lebanon governor Riad Salameh was one of the suspects in the case.

Salameh faces accusations in Lebanon of illegal enrichment, but he denies this.
