Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez met with Frenkie de Jong, the team’s midfielder, to talk about the player’s future.
De Jong’s name has recently been linked to a move to Manchester United, and reports indicated the player’s refusal to leave and his insistence on continuing.
And AS newspaper revealed, according to its sources, that Xavi had a conversation with De Jong in order to talk about the player’s future with Barcelona.
The report indicated that Xavi began his speech by emphasizing his reliance on the Dutch player in his Barcelona project and his intention to give him more opportunities.
Xavi explained to de Jong that this requires effort from the Dutch player by reducing his salary by almost half.
Barcelona is seeking to reduce De Jong’s salary or his departure from the team and get rid of his salary for the economic condition of the team.
Barcelona is afraid of not being able to register its new deals due to the club’s economic situation due to salaries and benefits.
Barcelona suffered the same thing before the start of the last season, and failed to score the duo Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero at the beginning.
At the time, the Catalan team succeeded in registering the duo after reducing the salaries of Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
The report indicated that Xavi and De Jong left the meeting satisfied, which indicates the Dutch player’s acceptance of the effort to reduce his salary.
It is now in the hands of De Jong, whether to continue and reduce his salary or refuse, and Barcelona is forced to dispense with him.
