Hugo Lloris revealed the impact of French players having a fever on their performance in the 2022 World Cup final.
Raphael Varane, Dayo Upamecano, Adrien Rabiot and Ibrahima Konate were infected with the camel virus two days before the final, and they participated in the final match in addition to Kingsley Coman.
“We will not hide behind excuses,” Lloris said in statements reported by “The Athletic”.
France played the World Cup semi-finals against Morocco 24 hours after Argentina qualified at the expense of Croatia.
“The only regret we have is that we got it all wrong in the first half,” he added.
And he added, “We ate in every aspect of the game. Despite that, in the second half, we came back with different intentions.”
And he continued, “We felt that we had room to return. We also did so thanks to the talent of Kylian Mbappe, who was able to carry the team at an important moment.”
He continued, “The extra time was a bit crazy, I think of these two chances when the score was 3-3 where we could score. It hurts.”
And he concluded, “But you have to give a lot of credit to the French team for everything that happened. We defended the 2018 World Cup title.”
France lost the World Cup final to Argentina on penalties, 4-2, after the end of the original and extra time, with a 3-3 draw.
