Beach trash collector Jenny Fitzgerald found about 100 old coins, jewels, a pocket watch and a ring in an old chest box on a British beach.
According to the Daily Mail, Jenny found the “treasure” between Cart Gap and Happisburgh while she was with North Norfolk Beach Cleans, which helps keep beaches clean by scavenging for marine litter.
“I’ve never found anything like this on the beach before, I usually look for sea glass and shells, so it was unbelievable,” Jenny said.
“It was just a pure chance that I stumbled, and I thought it was a piece of driftwood at first but then I saw the top of it,” Jenny added.
The 10-inch box was discovered at the bottom of a low cliff hidden behind a sandy sidewalk, and Jamie helped her husband James, an IT consultant, bring her 3-pound box home to Norwich, where he helped Jenny’s kids clean the sand with an old toothbrush.
Medical Secretary Ms Fitzgerald said: “We found about 100 coins, most of them Victorian and some dated George III, but some of them looked Roman and there were a couple of medieval groats, as well as an ornate perfume bottle, an iron key and a silver match holder engraved with his name Ernst”.
According to Jenny, the fund will be handed over to Norfolk County Council to determine who will benefit from it.
