Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has left hospital after 45 days. Berlusconi, 86, was hospitalized at the beginning of April with pneumonia linked to leukemia, for which the former prime minister is being treated, according to Reuters. The doctors did not comment on the current condition of the politician and founder of the Italian government party.
According to Corriere della Sera, dozens of people and journalists are awaiting the departure of the former prime minister. Berlusconi got into a dark car with his partner, Marta Fassina, and waved to the crowd as he left the car.
Berlusoni’s departure from hospital was welcomed by Prime Minister Giorgia Miloniova or the coordinator of the Up Italy party and the head of Italian diplomacy, Antonio Tajani.
As the leader of the centre-right bloc, Berlusconi has been one of the main drivers of Italian politics for nearly two decades and has repeatedly served as prime minister. His political influence waned after 2013, when the Senate stripped him of his mandate because he was convicted of tax fraud.
In recent years, Berlusconi has repeatedly suffered from health problems. He underwent heart surgery in 2016 and contracted COVID-19 in 2020. Since then he has been back in the hospital several times. In April, doctors announced that Berlusconi had leukemia, but it was not severe.
